Sailors girls lacrosse team falls, 12-6, to Eagle Valley
April 27, 2011
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School girls junior varsity lacrosse team lost Tuesday night, falling 12-6 to a combined junior varsity/varsity team from Eagle Valley.
A strong sophomore class led the way for the Sailors in scoring. Aleigh Aurin scored three times. Hannah Samlowski scored twice, and Sammie Cline scored once.
Eagle Valley broke up the game with a 4-0 lead in the first half. Samlowski's goals made it 6-2 at halftime, and Cline scored early in the second to pull her team within three.
Aurin scored all three of her goals in the second half, but Eagle Valley supplied six scores of its own to keep control of the game.
"They had an awful lot of seniors out there who played varsity all year. Our girls hung in there, but some of the Eagle Valley girls were faster and had stick work we hadn't seen yet," Steamboat coach Betsy Frick said. "We did a good job hanging with them. I was pleased with the effort."
Steamboat is scheduled to play its final game of the season Thursday on the road against a junior varsity squad at Summit.
"I'm thrilled with the progress the girls have made this year," Frick said. "I'm pleased with their level of commitment. Their fitness is better. Their stick work is better. Their teamwork is better.
"It's definitely been a good year."
