Routt County basketball players earn all-league nods

— Multiple Routt County prep athletes have been named to first-team all basketball leagues.

In Steamboat Springs, girls players Colleen King and Hannah Moore were named to the first-team All Western Slope League. Tara Spitellie and Emi Birch were named honorable mention.

King also received three votes for Player of the Year and was selected to play in the June Colorado High School Coaches Association all-star game in Greeley.

On the boys side, Sailors junior guard Isiah Forsyth and Charles Wood each were named to the first team. Wood finished as runner-up in League Player of the Year voting.

Senior Jack Spady and junior Randall Nelson were named honorable mention.

"I thought all those guys had great seasons," Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said. "It was pretty deserving, and I think if people watched our games, it was pretty straight forward."

In Hayden, the Tigers boys team capped a state run with several postseason awards. Murphy Smartt and Graig Medvesk were named to the first team, and Rene and Raul Valdez and Ben Williams were named honorable mention.

Tigers coach Mike Luppes was hoping to get possibly one more player on the first team but said the selections show the depth of the Hayden team.

"We had different games where we had different kids step up," he said. "Overall, performance-wise, I was pleased with our play."

Hayden girls coach Eric Hamilton could not be reached Tuesday.

Soroco girls basketball player Corey Snyder was named to the first team, and Shelby Miles and Madison George were named honorable-mention. Coach David Bruner said it was close with his other two starters, Lindsay Miles and Ceanna Rossi. All five Rams return next season.

On the boys side, Soroco seniors Alex Estes and Cody Miles were named first team. Post players Leif Carlson and Matt Watwood were named honorable mention.
