Moose hunting season begins Monday
September 30, 2012
Steamboat Springs — Even though there's a lull in the popular elk and rifle seasons, there's no lull in the hunting season in Northwest Colorado, and hikers, bikers and anyone hoping to enjoy the great outdoors should be aware of the potential dangers.
The elk and deer archery season wrapped up Sept. 23, and the first rifle season begins Oct. 13, running through Oct. 17.
Moose season begins today, however, running for two weeks, to Oct. 14. Pronghorn season begins Saturday.
The second elk rifle season runs Oct. 20 to 28. The third season is Nov. 3 to 11, and the fourth season is Nov. 14 to 18.
Archery wrapped up across the board Sept. 23. Only the pronghorn muzzleloading season remains, Oct. 21 to 29. Bear season for rifles is split between four seasons, Oct. 13 to 17, Oct. 20 to 28, Nov. 3 to 11 and Nov. 14 to 18.
Hunters are legally required to wear daylight fluorescent orange on an outer garment above the waist and on a hat. Colorado Parks and Wildlife recommends any outdoor recreationists also wear orange or other bright colors this time of year.
