Live music, food, increased transit on tap for Irish holiday
March 17, 2010
Steamboat Springs — Corned beef will steam, Guinness will flow and live music will boom at Steamboat Springs bars and restaurants today as locals and visitors celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Local festivities start with live music during happy hour on the mountain and downtown. Corned beef and cabbage dinners offer traditional Irish fare at Hayden Valley Elementary School in Hayden and Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat. A fireworks display at Steamboat Ski Area gets nighttime celebrations moving. Live music touching on rock, funk, blues and dance styles starts at about 9:30 p.m.
For those planning to partake in St. Patrick's Day revelry, Steamboat Springs Transit will add four buses to join its regular fleet of seven for the holiday. The buses will run on routes where they are needed most, with the last bus departing most areas between 1 and 1:50 a.m.
Area law enforcement will increase patrols to curb drunken driving today. Colorado State Patrol troopers and Steamboat Springs Police Department officers will have more officers on patrol, an effort funded by a Colorado Department of Transportation grant. Routt County Sheriff's Office deputies also will step up enforcement across the county today, though not through a grant.
