— Ariel Treadway dreamed of life as a pro snowboarder. But one ACL tear and a reality check later, Treadway realized she had been preparing for much more than a life in snow sports.

She and her older sister, Danielle Treadway, just launched a line of high-end corsets in their home of Nashville, Tenn., and the fashionable statement pieces will be featured in next week’s Stars at Night fashion show and fundraiser for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Foundation.

On Thursday, the sisters, ages 21 and 24, were clad in their own creations and all smiles about showing off their work to the hometown crowd.

“Steamboat follows everyone’s successes and celebrates them whenever you’re back,” Ariel said.

The girls’ corsets are just one part of the celebration Thursday. The inaugural event will be a glamorous — yet still distinctively Steamboat — evening of interaction with the Steamboat Winter Sports Club’s past, present and future, organized by Foundation director Patti Kauf-Melehes with collaboration from Jennifer Michele, Alana Yankowitz and Katie West.

The main event of Stars at Night is the celebrity fashion show, which will dress local athletes and personalities in clothing from local stores Le Bateau, White Pepper, Chez Nous, Fleischer Sport and Romick’s Into the West, as well as ANI&ARI corsets.

Chad Fleischer, Solange Guenier, Erin Simmons and Marcelo Balboa, as well as many more familiar Steamboat names, will walk the runway during the event, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. at The Steamboat Grand.

There will be live music from Jesse Christensen and DJ Also Starring, a Champagne toast and a long evening of dancing.

A live auction features big-ticket items such as a cat-skiing trip with Three Forks Ranch and restaurant packages.

Kauf-Melehes said the goal of the organization’s first big event is to raise $100,000 for the endowment fund, which contributes 5 percent of its earnings each year to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club in an effort to help cultivate the athletes of the present and future.

She said whether local children go on to be skiers, fashion designers or anything else, the town always is proud of their accomplishments outside Steamboat.

“We think, ‘That’s one of our kids,’” said Kauf-Melehes, who grew up a competitive skier and has two children in the Winter Sports Club.

This year, the foundation has about $2.3 million in its fund and will donate $127,000 to the club.

Its goal is to secure the future of the Winter Sports Club with $10 million in the fund.

Tickets for the event are $125 and earn each guest a spot at a table with a star athlete.

U.S. Ski Team competitor Ryan Dyer, 20, said his aim for the evening will be to share with the guests what the Winter Sports Club has meant to him.

And he would need more than a night to express it all.

“It’s pointed me in a direction so that I can have a career in what I love,” he said. “But beyond that, I have this base of working with people and coaches and kids. It gives me confidence.”
