Haymaker scheduled to open to golfers today
May 10, 2010
Steamboat Springs — Despite the wet weather Monday, Haymaker golf professional Luke Brosterhous said the course will open to the public this morning.
"It will be a first-come, or first-call, basis," Brosterhous said Monday.
The plan is to open the pro shop at 8:30 a.m. The course will start accommodating golfers at 9 a.m., weather permitting. Golfers can call the pro shop at 970-870-1846 for a tee time.
Brosterhous said he was optimistic about opening day but admitted that the fate of their plans hinges on Mother Nature.
Today's forecast from the National Weather Service calls for an 80 percent chance of rain with a high of only 53 degrees. It gets even colder Wednesday, with a forecast high of 42 degrees and a 60 percent chance of rain and snow.
"Of course, if there is snow on the course we will not let golfers out," Brosterhous said. "But as soon as the snow is gone, we will have them on the course."
Brosterhous said the pro shop is scheduled to be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost to play 18 holes is $48 for residents, and the first tee time is at 9 a.m. The fee for non-residents and weather updates will be posted on the course's website at http://www.haymakergolf.com. Haymaker's practice range opened last week.
"I was out on the course yesterday and it is in terrific shape," Brosterhous said. "Bill Whelihan (Haymaker superintendent) and his crew have done an outstanding job of getting the course ready to go. It's in great shape for this early in the season."
