Haymaker 2014 season passes go on sale
April 1, 2014
Steamboat Springs — This story has been updated to reflect a correction in non-resident pricing for an 18-hole round of golf.
Snow still covers the fairways at Haymaker Golf Course in Steamboat Springs, but it's not too early to start thinking about golf.
Season passes went on sale Tuesday at the city-owned golf course south of Steamboat Springs. Golfers will have this month to purchase their passes at a reduced price before pass prices increase April 30.
"There are some bare spots starting to poke through in places," said Tom Taylor, head professional at Haymaker. "I think we are looking at a mid-May opening, but it's going to depend on the weather."
The pro shop will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for those wishing to purchase passes in person, Taylor said. He added that golfers also can call 970-870-1846 to purchase passes over the phone with a credit card.
This year, the cost for a resident season pass will be $1,295 and will include unrestricted golf throughout the season. Golfers purchasing a season pass can add a spouse for $980.
The cost for a season pass increased $45 from last season, when a pass could be purchased for $1,250.
This year, an 18-hole round of golf at Haymaker will cost residents $57 and non-residents $115. The cost for residents increased by $2 from 2013 prices and non-residents will pay $6 more for a round of golf in 2014.
John Vanderbloemen, who is with Haymaker Golf Management Committee, said golfers will see a slight increase, between 3 and 4 percent, as the course continues to cover increased operational and maintenance cost and to help cover future capital improvement costs.
The course will offer local golfers options to save money with twilight and super-twilight hours as well as loyalty cards.
Golfers teeing off after 3 p.m. will play for $45, and those waiting until 5 p.m. to tee off will pay just $30 for as many holes as they can get in before the sun sets. Taylor said the programs have been very popular in the past and that he expects those programs to continue to be strong in 2014.
Golfers also will be able to purchase the resident loyalty card (formerly known as the punch card) for $489. The card includes 20 nine-hole rounds and is completely transferable.
For the first time, Haymaker also will offer the Haymaker ONE Pass. This pass includes unlimited golf, unlimited range balls and use of the practice facility and motorized carts for the entire season. The cost of the Haymaker ONE Pass is $2,495 for an individual and $4,195 for a couple.
To help get Steamboat Springs residents excited about the upcoming season, Haymaker will host a Masters event from noon to 5 p.m. April 12 at the clubhouse. Golf enthusiasts are invited to come out to enjoy beverages and snacks and watch the Masters live. The tournament will be held at the Augusta National Golf Course.
Staff also will have the new TRAC MAN launch monitor set up on site for demonstrations. This new piece of technology supplies golfers with information about their swing. It is the most advanced monitor for club fitting and instruction.
