The Hungry Dog hosts hot dog eating contest
The record is nine Vienna Beef hot dogs in five minutes, but anyone is welcome to try and beat that local hot dog eating standard at the third annual Hungry Dog contest Saturday afternoon.
The contest is open to 25 participants, and there still are spots left. Stop by The Hungry Dog at Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue to sign up.
Hungry Dog owner Brad Somers said the event is a thank you to the community that supports the business throughout the year. The contest begins at 2 p.m. and will consist of one five-minute round. Whoever downs the most dogs, including the buns, will win free hot dogs for a year.
There will be a live radio broadcast, free food and a raffle for Hungry Dog swag and gift certificates.
Tread of Pioneers' Festival of Trees is Nov. 10 to 19
The Tread of Pioneers Museum is hosting the annual Festival of Trees from Nov. 10 to 19 at the museum, and sponsors are needed for the fundraising event, according to a news release. The cost to sponsor a tree is $500, which supports the museum and provides funds for sustaining preservation and educational activities. Sponsors are invited to select their trees at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 at the museum. Trees are decorated by area nonprofits, schools, businesses and community groups. For more information or to become a sponsor, call museum Director Candice Bannister at 970-879-2214. The deadline to sponsor a tree is Friday.
Holidays in the Rockies applications available
The annual Holidays in the Rockies artisan and craft fair will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at Strawberry Park Elementary School. The event offers Yampa Valley artists an opportunity to share their creative work with the community during the holiday shopping season. For more information or an application to be part of the fair, email email@example.com or call 970-879-9008. The entry deadline is Nov. 5.
Artists invited to take part in 'Reconstruction'
Artists are invited to be part of an interactive exhibit this month to reinterpret, deconstruct or reconstruct a stimulus painting: Gregory Block's "Reconstruction No. 1."
Block's work will hang on its own at the Depot Art Center through October to serve as a reference and inspiration for the participating artists. The Steamboat Springs Arts Council encourages artists to come and work in the gallery space and in their own studios, organize group sessions and engage others in the community in the conversation of artistic interpretation. The developed works must be created on a provided 12-foot-by-12-foot canvas, must be completed by Oct. 30 and will be for sale for $200 (50 percent will go to support the Arts Council). The submitted works then will be on display during November along with the stimulus artwork in "Reconstruction," which will open at First Friday Artwalk on Nov. 2. For more information, call 970-879-9008.
