Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide’s annual fundraiser takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill.

The old-fashioned chicken barbecue event is open to the whole family and features chicken, beans, corn and dessert for $10. The event offers discounts on the Alpine slide, face painting, a silent auction and live music from local musician Jesse Christensen.

Proceeds from dinner and auction benefit support groups, training and programs in relation to suicide prevention in the Yampa Valley. Call 970-846-8182 for more information.



STARS Biking the Boat charity ride is Saturday

Flex your biking abilities and raise money for local charities at this year’s STARS Biking the Boat event Saturday.

The rides begin at 7:30 a.m. in Gondola Square at Steamboat Ski Area, and costs vary from $15 to $60 based on the chosen route. There are 26-, 46- and 55-mile rides as well as an all-abilities ride of five miles, which is free for youths 10 and younger. A post-ride party in Gondola Square features live music, food, beer and a watch party for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.



Individuals and teams can raise funds for the ride, which benefits STARS adaptive sports programming and Routt County Riders.

Steamboat Springs Labor Day weekend schedule

The Wild West Air Fest and Chuckwagon Chili Challenge are back for Labor Day weekend festivities in Steamboat Springs.

The Wild West Air Fest takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Steamboat Springs Airport, featuring vintage aircrafts, rides and activities for all ages. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for youths.

On Sunday, the Chuckwagon Chili Challenge takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Eighth and Oak Streets. A $10 tasting kit earns a chance to sample the chili, salsa and cornbread in the competition, and there will be live music from local acts Trevor G. Potter and Ragweed.

4th annual OktoberWest entertainment announced

Austin, Texas’ The Wheeler Brothers will headline the fourth annual OktoberWest celebration during the weekend of Sept. 21 to 23.

The event begins Friday night with a downtown beer and food tasting. From 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, the grand beer tasting takes place in Gondola Square. A beer stein costs $25 in advance and includes beer tastings from breweries in the Rocky Mountains and beyond. Admission to the festival is free.

The Wheeler Brothers, an Americana country band that recently played Steamboat Springs during MusicFest 2012, take the Steamboat Stage at 4 p.m. The Mile Markers open at 2:30 p.m.
