Economic Summit to emphasize innovation, evolution

Event at The Steamboat Grand begins Wednesday

— The 2011 Economic Summit kicks off Wednesday afternoon at The Steamboat Grand, and there's still space for business-minded residents who want to innovate, create and evolve.

The annual summit begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday with an economic update from Carl Steidtmann, chief economist and director of consumer business for Deloitte Research. Steidtmann's presentation will be followed by one from Brian Ewing, director of sales and marketing for Fort Collins-based OtterBox. An opening reception follows at 7:30 p.m.

The theme of this year's summit is "Innovate-Create-Evolve: Strategies to Reinvent Your Business."

The meat of the Economic Summit is Thursday, beginning with registration and a business expo at 7:30 a.m., also at the Grand.

Dan Cox, president of Lawrence, Kan.-based Mediaphormedia, will give a keynote address at 9 a.m. about "Emerging Media and Marketing Trends and What They Mean to Small Business."

Breakout sessions from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. include "Social Media Technologies You Should Use Now," "The Innovative Spirit in Steamboat is Alive" and "Tourism Innovation."

During lunch, attendees will hear Roger Brooks, founder and CEO of Destination Development International, talk about "The Seven Things You Need to Do to Win in this Era of the Brand." His keynote will be followed by another round of breakout sessions, with topics including "Driving an Evolution in Culture for Strategic Gain" with SmartWool President and General Manager Mark Satkiewicz, "What's Facebook Changed Lately?" and "Is Service Your Best Sales Tool?"

The Economic Summit closes with a 3 p.m. keynote by Jan Horsfall, CEO and Chairman of Gelazzi. Admission to the Economic Summit is $65 a person. Register at or by calling 970-875-7000. Attendees also can register at the door.
