Brent Boyer: Best of the Boat survey ready for Steamboat community input
Vote in the online survey for your favorites between today and Jan. 15
December 15, 2010
Steamboat Springs — Since the day I moved to Steamboat Springs, I've taken my cars to Bob's Downtown Conoco for service. I've never had a bad experience, and I feel like Bob and his team are looking out for me.
My favorite happy hour is at Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill, where on occasion I fill up on $1 tapas and enjoy half-price drinks from 4 to 6 p.m.
When the powder is deep at the Steamboat Ski Area, I head to the 2:30 trees for untracked lines through a monstrous aspen glade. It's my go-to tree run on Mount Werner.
After eight years in Steamboat, I generally know what I like and what I don't. But I'm always open to new ideas.
I have a feeling I'll be giving some businesses a second — or in some cases, a first — chance come early 2011. That's when we'll announce the winners in our Best of the Boat community survey that kicks off today.
The last time the Steamboat Pilot & Today conducted a Best of the Boat survey was in summer 2002, just a couple of months before I drove over Rabbit Ears Pass behind the wheel of a moving truck. Pilot & Today staff members have spent the past several weeks compiling a comprehensive list of 130 or so questions asking residents and visitors to name everything from their favorite pizza place to their favorite hiking trail.
The Best of the Boat survey is our chance as a community to applaud the best of the city we love to call home or home away from home. Participating is simple: The survey is divided into two parts encompassing five segments. They are: dining, shopping, services, entertainment and community.
We're conducting the survey through Constant Contact, which means you can access it only once. Sorry, would-be ballot stuffers, but we want the survey to be fair, fun and an accurate representation of the town's favorite people, places and businesses.
The Best of the Boat voting period ends Jan. 15. We'll announce the winners on http://www.exploresteamboat.com and in the March issue of At Home in Steamboat Springs magazine. Stay tuned for details about a Best of the Boat community celebration.
If settling the debate between you and your friends about who in town makes the best burrito isn't motivation enough, the Steamboat Pilot & Today is giving away two $500 local shopping sprees for people who complete the two surveys. Vote today to have your say about who truly is the Best in the Boat.
