Steamboat Springs — The summer fun continues Friday and Saturday in Hayden with the annual Hayden Daze celebration.
"It's really just a celebration of the town and the community," Hayden Recreation Coordinator Jill Delay said.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to come to the events, many of which are free. Everything but the parade is taking place at Dry Creek Park.
The event kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday when food vendors and the beer garden will open. New this year, a fishing clinic will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with Stagecoach State Park Manager Craig Preston. Participants should bring their own fishing gear.
After the clinic, a dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight with live music from Loose Change.
Also new this year is a disc golf and washers tournament.
Registration for the disc golf tournament begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. The cost is $15 per person, and play starts at 9:30 a.m. Everyone receives a T-shirt, and there will be prizes for top finishers.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the Hayden Daze parade will come down Jefferson Avenue. After that, people are encouraged to pop over to the Hayden Heritage Center, 300 W. Pearl St., for Routt beer floats from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Museum visitors also can check out the new Smithsonian exhibit titled "Journey Stories." Both museum events are free.
The free family fun then continues at Dry Creek Park beginning at noon with a bounce house, 100-foot obstacle course with a rope swing, bungee trampoline, dunk tank and giant slide.
The Hayden Booster Club will be hosting a washers tournament starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $20 per two-person team. Half of the proceeds will go to the winners, and the other half will benefit the Booster Club.
