4 local snowboarders named to World Championship Team

— Four athletes with ties to Steamboat Springs or the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club were named to the 2010 U.S. Junior snowboarding World Championship Team.

The World Championships will be at the end of August in New Zealand.

Steamboat's Maddy Schaffrick will lead the way in the women's halfpipe. Schaffrick had three top-10 finishes last season in the prestigious U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix.

Also with ties to SteamĀ­boat, Roger Carver and Chloe Banning will compete in the snowboard cross event. Cassie Wagar will compete in the women's Alpine snowboarding events.

The World Championships run Aug. 21 to 31.
