— The lineup for the 2010 Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series is taking shape.

Three of five acts for the 20th annual summer series are booked, concert series promoter John Waldman said Friday. He said he hopes to have the remaining two acts confirmed within the next few weeks.

Waldman has confirmed Easy Star All-Stars to play July 30; JJ Grey & MOFRO to play Aug. 13; and the Emmitt-Nershi Band to play Aug. 20, he said. All three concerts are Friday nights. Waldman said as of Friday, series organizers planned to do all five concerts at Howelsen Hill.

Easy Star All-Stars is a reggae band best known for its renditions on classic rock albums. The group played in Steamboat most recently for the 2010 Bud Light Rocks the Boat free concert series at Steamboat Ski Area.

MOFRO, fronted by JJ Grey, is a seven-piece blues, Southern rock and funk band from Jacksonville, Fla. The group played for the 2007 Free Summer Concert Series.

The Emmitt-Nershi Band — named for leading members Drew Emmitt, of Leftover Salmon, and Bill Nershi, of The String Cheese Incident — plays a brand of modern bluegrass that draws on jazz and rock influences. The group is scheduled to play several music festivals this summer. Emmitt-Nershi Band's lead members have appeared in Steamboat for past free concerts and other events.

For the past several years, the Free Summer Concert Series has presented five shows featuring a variety of acts at the base of Howelsen Hill and the base of Steamboat Ski Area. In 2009, the series featured performances by Rusted Root, The Greyboy Allstars, The Freddy Jones Band, Susan Tedeschi and The Avett Brothers.

The Free Summer Concert Series is a nonprofit organization, funded by sources including the city of Steamboat Springs, sponsorships, private donations, concessions, grants and fundraisers. To learn more about the series or to donate to it, go to http://www.steamboatfree concerts.com.
