All: A memorial service for Steamboat Springs resident Cole Verploeg, who passed away Jan. 12, 2008, is at 7 p.m. Thursday at Steamboat Springs High School.
With all due respect, it's called grieving in private. I don't think it is being kept from the public, refering to the post by Mr Boyer, but it is not being made public by way of the front page of the paper, which IMO is a good idea at this point. It is nobody's business how it happened or the details of the account, leave them alone and let them grieve the loss of a child, something no parent should ever have to experience. Maybe down the road a positive article could be written about his life and they could then mention the reasons why. Those wanting to know how are a little bent IMO.
All: I encourage anyone with questions about our news coverage, or choice of news coverage, to contact me directly. My phone number and e-mail address is listed below.
I do know what happened to Cole, and I think that it's ridiculous to keep pushing for someone to offer information. I think that we should let the Verploeg family have some privacy at this time, and all in due time I think everyone will know.
My thoughts, prayers and sympathy go to both the Verploeg and Barney family and all their friends.
Both were truly wonderful people who were taken way too young.
Hockey goalies are a unique breed, Cole was no different. He was a fun kid. He and I had a lot of fun giving eachother a hard time on the ice. Cole was very talented at pushing my buttons and making me laugh at the same time. Good goalie with a great goalie attitude.
