I just read the news article on the lawsuit. Wow...........................I think that Mr. Roberts is going to get both his money and his job back. I am impressed with his lawsuit, because everything he says in his affidavit is true. All you have to do is read further along in the article, and you can see that the City of Steamboat doesn't deny that they fired him the way they did, or that Steamboat Springs Fire Department wasn't up to safety standards. They even state that they are now in the process of updating those filling 'whatever's.' That means they concede that everything he is suing over is, in fact, true. That puts the city totally at fault in all claims by Mr. Roberts. It doesn't take a 'rocket scientist' to figure this one out. Who are these people running our city? Are they really this ignorant? After reading this article, the people of Steamboat should be up-in-arms! The article lays out the lawsuit without taking sides. It definitely states that the City of Steamboat Springs did exactly what the lawsuit is about. DUH!!!!!!!! For the life of me, I can't figure why this is going to court. Are these people that run our city government really all that dumb? If so, they should all be replaced.............if not now, certainly after they lose the lawsuit.
Has anyone been informed of the many firefighters inappropriatly displaced by Chief Struble. I understand there is current litigation from a Craig man who worked part time for the SFFD who was fired for no reason. They offered his position back but he wants a cash settlement as well. There has been hostile work enviroment claims filed against fire administration... is JD Hayes and the city sweeping this under the carpet too? What were the results of the investigation? It is obvious JD Hays and Bob Struble are more intrested in protecting their pensions than the citizens of our community. Bob Struble has fired and forced out nearly his entire volunteer/part-time workforce. His full time staff felt compelled enough to form a union for their own protection. What is to gain for the general public other than higher operating costs, decreased level of service, delayed response time and fewer responders? The teflon will wear off these guys if the city council would ask them the tough questions. Bob and JD are in damage control mode telling everyone there departments are performing well....when is the truth in its entirety going to rise to the surface?
This would be a great investigative story for the Pilot. One comment says there's a lawsuit against the City, that the workforce is being forced out, the staff formed a union, etc. and then the next comment says that steamboatwatchdog should get their facts straight because there is very little truth to them. I tend to agree with watchdog as I have heard there is litigation going on, I have heard a union was formed and I recall reading about a year ago there was a problem with a lot of people quitting. The Fire Department is an essential service to this City and if there are problems going on maybe the community needs to aware to them. I, for one, would like to hear the truth in its entirety, too.
Not trying too hard, but a simple Google search reveals that the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has Local 4472 representing members of Steamboat Springs Fire-Rescue. www.iafflocals.com/

Perhaps steamboatwatchdog should get the facts before posting them in this forum. There is very little about his statement that has any truth to it.

The Steamboat Fire Department's web site references IAFF Local 4472.

So this union thing must be the "very little truth" portion of 'Dog's posting.
